The 21st century skills are a set of abilities that were developed with input from teachers, education experts, and business leaders to define and illustrate the skills and knowledge students need to succeed in work, life and citizenship, as well as the support systems necessary for 21st century learning outcomes. These skills are separated into three types: first the Learning skills; which include critical thinking, creative thinking, collaborating and communicating.
Then we have the Literacy skills; which are information literacy, media literacy and technology literacy.
Finally, we have the Life skills; which include flexibility, initiative, social skills, productivity and leadership.
21st century standards, assessments, curriculum, instruction, professional development and learning environments must be aligned to produce 21st century outcomes for today’s students.
